PIWC GRACELAND marked the month’s communion service with ministration from Overseer Caleb Agbeke. He ministered on the theme “Walking with the Living Jesus” with scripture reference from Luke 24:1-35, emphasis on verses 13-16.
Pro/Ovs. Agbeke began his sermon by stating that it is imperative for Christians not to lose sight of the actual purpose of their salvation while focusing on auxiliary things. He mentioned that disappointments and other worldly influences occur purposefully to derail believers from their understanding of Christ. Yet, we must not trade our obedience of the commands of God for worldly gains. Believers must stand fast with their ultimate focus being Jesus Christ.
From verse 20-24, Pro/Ovs. Agbeke pointed out that though some of the disciples walked with Jesus, they did not understand his mission of redemption. They were looking at physical redemption from the Romans. The preacher admonished the Church to have spiritual revelation of the purpose of Christ despite the crowd around us. Believers must not fail to remember all that God reveals to us during our walk with Him. We must let our values and beliefs be in consonant with the Word of God. We must understand Jesus beyond face value, i.e. seek a deeper understanding of His ways and purposes.
Unlike the crowd in John 6:27, we must seek after a more personal understanding in our walk with God and not just rely on His provision of worldly things with temporal value. Believers must take Christ on His word in John 6: 34-35 and seek an intimate and divine purpose in our walk with Him. We must not forget the value of the spiritual bread which we have, during our walk with Christ; access to this bread (Jesus) opens our eyes to the mysteries of His kingdom and to the revelation of our divine purpose.
Ephesians 1:14-15 tells us that as we walk with Jesus, He becomes a deposit which guarantees our glorious inheritance. This proves that man’s desire of worldly inheritance is a limitation of his ability to see the glorious inheritance we have in Christ Jesus. Pro/Ovs. Agbeke asked the congregation to seek for the truth which opens our eyes to the glorious mysteries of God. Our fellowship should not be limited to the things that please our human desires, but, be in tune with our understanding of the eternal glory which is promised all believers. From 2 Corinthians 4:18, the preacher reminded us to keep our eyes on the things that are not seen, the things that keep us from being derailed by the pressures which surround us, as we walk with Christ in expectation of the promised eternal glory.
The church is also to recall the great gift God has given us in the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:11 tells us that everyone who has the Holy Spirit has been quickened to understand Christ in their walk with Him. However, it takes knowledge and understanding of the word of God to be quickened and stay focused on Christ. Pro/Ovs. Agbeke told the Church that we must not rely on the promises on man but dwell on the sufficiency of God, and desire to know Him more and more through His Holy Spirit. Our journey with Christ is a journey of revelation, one that seeks to unravel the glorious mysteries of Christ to us.
The sermon concluded with a call to all believers not to lose sight of the marvellous revelations spread before us on our walk with Christ.
